English or German CV?

Updated: Sep 10, 2022

Many of you ask me: Should I send my CV in English or in German?

The answer is: it depends!

Job offer in English

Case 1: If the job offer is in English, it is usually fine to send your CV in English.

Case 2: However, if the job offer requires fluency in German and "only" a good knowledge of English, I recommend sending your CV in German, as long as the company is German!

Case 3: If the job offer says: "fluent English, advanced German", then I advise you to send your CV in English.

Job offer in German

Case 1: If the job offer is in German but the working language is English, I also recommend sending your CV in English.

Case 2: The job offer is in German, the working language is indicated as German → logically, the CV is sent in German.

Please note that you should also adapt the motivation letter accordingly.
